Summary: Ryne Taylor was a sexy bad-ass Alpha set on establishing a new pack. Melody Greene was a journalism student researching his work as a photographer or so she said. But could Mel really be trusted or had she stumbled upon his secret? And if she knew, could Ryne save himself and the pack he d left behind without enacting a deadly ancient law known as The Keeping? Sequel to The Mating.

What Rhea thought: Nicky Charles most definitely has the werewolf legend pat down. The way she weaves the story, makes it as riveting as The Keeping has been is a phenomena. And needless to say, Ryne is my new favorite.

The Keeping is book two in the Law of the Lycans series and starts right where book one The Mating ends. Ryne has moved away to Canada, to a small town in Northern Ontario with Bryan and Daniel, intent on forming a pack of his own. There he meets Melody Greene, a journalist from Chicago who is being paid by a mysterious millionaire to interview and report about Ryne Taylor. Simple job right?

Not really. If you’ve read the first book in the series then you probably know of the infamous photograph that Ryne had taken of his older brother Kane and had enlarged and due to a misunderstanding, gotten sold. Yeah well it’s reached the wrong hands, just like Ryne and Kane feared and now both the packs have to pay for the indiscretion.

My first impression of The Keeping was that it probably wouldn’t be as exciting to me as The mating was, being a romance type chick and all. But the romance was there. Only hidden in snark, sarcasm and really hot sex between Ryne of course, and the meddlesome journalist Mel. It kept me just as interested as The Mating did and once again, I would have paid even $5 to buy a book like this. But thankfully, the book is free, just like its prequel and its Sequel, The Finding.

I definitely recommend that you get a hold of these free ebooks and read them. I finished this book in no time and rest assured, The Finding is in my to-be-read pile 🙂

Final Verdict: The author did not disappoint. A well deserved ★★★★

About the Author:

Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this:

In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings.
